Des Taylor on the CR10 Specimen Float Rods...
I’ve been looking for a specimen float rod for many years, but not one built on an ultra-light, ultra-thin blank. I wanted a powerful rod on a strongly built blank that could stand up to days out with a seasoned specimen hunter in big-fish terrain. It had to be strong enough to play big barbel and chub on rivers, yet also perfect for big tench, bream and carp.
In tests over the past three years, I have caught barbel to over 12lb, chub to over 6lb, big bags of tench and bream, and carp to over 20lb on the float with these rods.
I knew exactly what I wanted from the rod, and James Robbins helped me a great deal in the final stages with the rings, ring spacings, handle and handle fittings. Together, we have come up with two rods that complement the specimen rod range. Despite designing a powerful rod, we have not lost sight of the through action and sweet feel that James and I both want in a fishing rod.
