This extra buoyancy allows the angler to drag line and some shot on the bottom of a river, lay more line on in a lake and is also much more visible at distance or in choppy water and poor light conditions.

These crystal clear straight wagglers can be trapped with shot around the float as normal and with these ideally placed either side equally to help reduce tangles. So, whether that is 4 large BB shot or AA etc try and place equal numbers either side. If you put one above and, say, 3 below you can get tangles. Also try not to ‘fix’ the float between these shot and allow the float to move and fold. It only needs a couple of mm gap to do this.

If more shot are required down the line then the shot around the float can be reduced and it is a simple case of changing the size or sizes used for smaller – say No 4 for No 1, No 1 for BB etc. The capacity of these floats really is, as close as possible, 1.5g, 2.0g, etc. Of course, everything is dependent on the actual size, weight and accuracy of the shot used. It also depends on the type of float adaptor you use as some can weigh as much as a No1 shot ! So, you can have your droppers in a string of singles or you can use doubles (as many don’t like to use the harder non-toxic No 6’s etc on fine lines so double up much softer No 8’s). By placing slightly less weight around the float your ‘dropper’ shots could even be bunches making up bulks. And you could deliberately under-shot these float for when you need more float sticking out above the surface to allow you to drag shot on the bottom.

Because the eyes are the same diameter as the loaded versions you can even add a brass weight to make your own loaded version. Bear in mind that when doing that you would need a smaller sized weight to allow for trapping shot. So, for example, a 2.5g weight placed onto a 3.0g float etc.

By having a selection of types, sizes and lengths enables you to ‘mix & match’ float sizes and even weight loadings. But it’s a good idea to place at least two below the float.

If more shot are required down the line then the built-in loading can be reduced as these floats typically need only several small ‘dust’ shot (No 8’s usually) totalling about 0.5g extra to the original float’s loading. You can change the base weights between floats by removing the small silicone collar and just taking the weight off. So, for example, take off the 3.0g weight and replace with a 2.5g weight giving you much more capacity for shot down the line. In this way your ‘dropper’ shots could be several No6 or some No4 etc or even a bulk. At the other end of the scale this is also equivalent to about 15 x No 8 shot if you divide the capacity by a multiple of very small shot and ignore the additional weight of any heavy float adaptor. And there is good reason for this.

You can trap these floats with an equal number of shot either side so small No8’s etc and then spread the remaining droppers in a string of spaced out singles or you can use doubles (as many don’t like to use the harder non-toxic No 6’s etc on fine lines so double up much softer No 8’s instead). But if you change the base weight for the next size up – as these crystal clear insert wagglers are deliberately made so you can do this – you can reduce the extra capacity needed to just a few No 8’s. If you still trap shot with some then you can fish very shallow and right up in the water with just 2 or 3 droppers. This is excellent when fishing for roach & chub which can often feed right up and almost under the surface.

You can also do the complete opposite and change the base weights for a smaller size giving you much more capacity for shot down the line. Trapping large shot helps to stop the floats from diving too deeply upon hitting the water although ‘feathering’ the cast helps a lot.

Their capacity is 3.0g 4.0g and 5.0g and when the suitable amount of shot is placed around the floats they sit perfectly, using no shot down the line if required, and allowing the angler to use a large hookbait.

It might surprise some but Pellet Wagglers can also be used in relatively shallow flowing rivers and streams as their extra buoyancy really helps to drag shot on the bottom and when striking they strike ‘clean’ folding on the strike and making almost no noise. Being unloaded they can be used with larger ‘droppers’ and even a bulk. This can be an excellent & entertaining way to float fish for Specimen fish like chub and barbel.

There are two tip colours available; dark orange and yellow. Their weight is nominally 5.0g, 6.0g, 7.0g and 8.0g. The 5.0g float has one extra disc , 6.0g has two, 7.0g has three and 8.0g has four.
