Coarse Fishing

Father and Son Fishing Adventures: A Journey Through Time

Father and Son Fishing

A Father’s Legacy

My dad first introduced me to fishing when I was just 8 years old. We spent countless hours by the local canals and the Warwickshire Avon, catching small roach and perch. Those were the days when the excitement of fishing consumed my thoughts all week long. Sunday mornings were a cherished ritual: my dad would prepare a packed lunch and load our fishing tackle into his Ford Granada before gently waking me up.

Loaded with maggots and worms, we were itching to cast a line into the water. These were the days I will always cherish and be forever grateful to my dad for introducing me to this wonderful sport over 40 years ago. The serene mornings, the quiet focus, and the shared joy of a good catch created a bond that has lasted a lifetime.

Benny’s Modern Take

Fast forward to today, and now I have the pleasure of introducing my son, Benny, to the joys of fishing. Our journey began at a private lake where we tried fly fishing, catching rudd and trout. Though Benny struggled with fly fishing, so I introduced him to coarse fishing, which proved to be a perfect fit. We caught rudd and roach, and his excitement grew with every trip.

One memorable outing was at Makings Fishery, where we started catching carp. It was there that Benny discovered his passion for coarse fishing. Recently, he joined the Wolvey Angling Club and participated in his first competition at Tunnel Barn Farm. It was an unfamiliar place for him, but I advised him to use maggots and a short pole.

The results were amazing. At the weigh-in, Benny had caught an impressive 113 pounds of F1 Carp, securing his first win. The pride and joy on his face were unforgettable, and I couldn’t have been prouder.

A Continuing Tradition

Fishing has not only become a beloved hobby for Benny but also a way for us to strengthen our bond. The thrill of competition, the tranquility of nature, and the satisfaction of a good catch are experiences we share together. Benny is now hooked on match fishing, and our weekends are often spent planning our next adventure.
